Ruth
Williams - Arctic Routes Across a Changing Landscape
The ReQuest Foundation has awarded £500
towards Ruth Williams’ Arctic research project,
helping to support her upcoming fieldwork in Arviat,
Nunavut, Canada. Ruth is a PhD researcher
at the University of Leeds whose work
focuses on understanding how climate change is affecting
the informal trail networks that Inuit communities rely on
for travel, access to traditional hunting and fishing
areas, and links with neighbouring communities.

ReQuest Foundation Deep Dive
A team of marine researchers have taken
the first ever photographs of the wreck of Shackleton’s
last ship Quest, 1000 feet down in the
Labrador Sea. ReQuest Foundation trustee Jan
Chojecki was on the “2026 Heroic Age
Expedition”, a partnership between the Royal
Canadian Geographical Society (RCGS) and
the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
(WHOI).

Our latest call for applications is now
open. Applications must be received by 31 January 2027
and awards will be announced by 15 February 2027.

with Ocean Youth Academy (OYA), the
South Georgia Association
(SGA) and the Royal Canadian Geographical Society
(RCGS).

educational and expedition opportunities for young people

250 Club Winner for September 2026!
Our first
monthly 250 Club draw took place next to the REQUEST2021
plaque to Shackleton's Scouts Marr & Mooney at the
100th Scout Gilwell Reunion on 5th
September. Congratulations to Tim May who is our 250
Club winner for our first ever draw this September. His
number was drawn by Charlotte Baden-Powell the Great Great
Granddaughter of Robert Baden-Powell. We currently
have 31 numbers sold, so the prize this month is £31. We
would love to have a bigger prize for our October draw. So
to have the chance to win it please sign up for a number of
your own. Half the money goes into the prize pot each month
and half goes to supporting our youth polar projects.
